Georgetown, Guyana (Credible Sources) – Linden Town Week 2024 generated $10.5 million in revenue and recorded over $6 million in profit, with the Linden Mayor and Town Council (LMTC) aiming to expand its economic impact for 2025.
Mayor of Linden, Sharma Solomon, made this disclosure during a virtual town hall meeting on Sunday, where he emphasized the broader economic benefits of the annual event. “We estimate that, based on the investments made, Linden Town Week generates almost half a billion dollars in economic activity for the town,” he stated.
Mayor Solomon noted that while the event was profitable, the council is focused on developing more structured evaluations and data-driven approaches to measure its full economic contribution. “We want to ensure that we are able to now see annually what the activity would have generated,” he said, adding that the council intends to improve its assessment mechanisms by 2025.
The council has already started planning for Linden Town Week 2025, maintaining the theme “One People, One Nation, One Destiny – Linden, the Heart of Guyana.” The mayor highlighted that this year’s edition will expand beyond entertainment to include more investment opportunities. “Destination Guyana and the Chamber of Commerce are bringing in one of the largest investment forums into Town Week 2025,” Solomon said, adding that this move will attract businesses and create more economic opportunities for Linden residents.
Addressing challenges, Mayor Solomon criticized what he described as “deliberate efforts” by government operatives to undermine the event. He referenced previous attempts to “sell an event for $345,000,” which the council blocked in favor of a more inclusive approach. “We ensured that everyone, including those who had bought out the event, was given an opportunity to participate,” he stated.
The council is considering new management models, including outsourcing or concession agreements, to enhance Linden Town Week’s sustainability and profitability. “This fifth council is seriously considering all options to ensure we have not only a successful 2025 Town Week but an even more impactful one in the years ahead,” the mayor concluded.
