Georgetown, Guyana (Credible Sources) The People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) Leader Aubrey Norton has expressed confidence in the party’s readiness for the 2025 General and Regional Elections, declaring, “We will defeat the PPP.”

Norton reaffirmed that he will be the PNCR’s presidential candidate for the elections. “My party would have said to me that I will be the presidential candidate. My party has given me the authority to choose if I decide otherwise,” Norton stated, emphasizing the party’s focus on presenting a united front.

During a press conference on January 10, Norton emphasized that the PNCR has been engaging communities and preparing its election machinery to ensure a strong showing against the incumbent People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C).

Norton also addressed recent defections from the PNCR to the ruling PPP/C. In particular, he dismissed concerns about the impact of these departures, stating, “The only time something like that becomes a concern is if the people who are going have a support base.” He maintained that the party’s grassroots work and internal cohesion would prevent significant losses in voter support.

This comes in the wake of former PNCR member James Bond endorsing President Irfaan Ali for a second term. Bond, a lawyer and businessman, declared, “Make sure to support me in the next election. He’s been a friend to me, and I’m giving you a second term. I said it publicly, Sir.”

Norton further underscored the importance of addressing systemic challenges in Guyana, such as high costs of living and inadequate infrastructure, which he attributes to PPP/C mismanagement. He also reaffirmed his confidence in the PNCR’s ability to unify its members and present a united front heading into the elections.

The PNCR leader reiterated the party’s readiness to fight for a better Guyana, stating, “Our people are sensible, and they will make the right choice at the ballot box.”
