Regional Chairman Deron Adams says there has been a systematic “neglect” of Coomacka. Residents of the Coomacka community in Region 10, known as ‘The Mines’ met with the Chairman Adams recently and expressed grave concerns as to how the government has neglected them.

The Regional Chairman told our publication that, “The road was done without any drains, and has already started to show signs of damage.” The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) led-administration has come in for serious criticisms recently for substandard, shoddy infrastructural work.

“The community center has been locked up for the past year and residents have been denied access despite requesting to use the computers that are in the facility to execute ICT programs for students.” this is despite the boast of ICT strides in such areas, according to Chairman Adams.

“The pavilion remains in a dilapidated state despite promises were made since 2021 . The lights have still not been installed,” the regional official stated. Additionally, the “CDC (Community Development Council) has not met in over a year and no monies or projects are discussed and accounted for. It’s a case of friends , family and favourites,” he said.

“Genuine farmers have still not benefited from a single cash grant, while persons who are not into agriculture are getting assistance. Resident are calling for a fresh CDC elections since the chairman and some of the executive have abandoned the community. Despite an increased in funding for CDC projects, workers are still paid a meager $20,000,” a frustrated Regional Chairman said.

Adams continued that, “Despite 25 lights were sent to the community only 7 were installed, the others have disappeared.” He added, “Many part-time workers who wanted to attend the consultation were afraid of victimization.”

The chairman said he and his team saw severe neglect experienced by the community of Coomacka, Old England, and other surrounding communities, during regional officials engagement in the communities.
