In a major success, a Police intelligence-led operation early this morning, Wednesday, July 24th, 2024, resulted in the discovery of 26 firearms, including high-powered rifles, and a significant stockpile of ammunition. Six individuals have been detained and are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
The operation targeted Lot 25 Sandy Babb Street, Kitty, the residence of 47-year-old Clothes Vendor, Eon Fagundes. As the Police entered the property, Fagundes was seen exiting his house with a side bag containing multiple firearms and ammunition. A search revealed a Sig Sauer Rifle, a Polimore-80 9mm pistol, a Spring Field Armory 45 pistol, and accompanying magazines and ammunition. Fagundes, who did not have a firearm license, was immediately arrested and cautioned.
A subsequent search of Fagundes’ house did not yield additional findings. However, a black Nissan Juke parked nearby revealed an alarming cache of weapons and ammunition. Items found in the vehicle included:
One AM 15 rifle and two magazines with sixty-one (61) .223 ammunition
Two Ruger-57 9mm pistols with forty (40) 9mm ammunition
One FN-45 pistol with thirty-eight (38) .45 ammunition
Various other handguns, including models from Smith and Wesson, Beretta, Spring Field Hellcat, Canik, and multiple Glock models
Significant quantities of ammunition for various calibers. The detailed inventory also included seventy-five (75) 12-gauge cartridges, over four hundred rounds of .223 and 9mm ammunition, among others. In total, the operation uncovered 26 firearms.
Individuals present at the scene, arrested for questioning, included:
Carol Fagundes, 66, mother of Eon
Devena Persaud, 22, unemployed niece
Theresa Fagundes, 49, unemployed sister
Tessa Persaud, 48, unemployed sister
Clement Thornton, 48, handyman
All seized firearms, ammunition, and magazines have been transferred to the GPF’s Ballistic Section for detailed examination, marking, sealing, and lodging. The vehicle has also been secured. Investigations continue as authorities strive to fully uncover the extent of this disturbing find.
