Faced with numerous delays and issues, the government has terminated several road and infrastructure contracts in Region 3. According to the Department of Public Information, most of these contracts were incomplete, and their timelines had expired.
During an inspection of several projects in Region 3 on Tuesday, Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill terminated the contracts, citing significant issues with the contractors and their work. One major project affected is the Bendorff to Maripa Access Road, a $55 million project awarded to JP General Construction and Services on August 2nd last year. The six-month contract involved constructing a 1,000-meter road; however, the contractor only completed 45 percent of the work, prompting the minister’s decision to terminate the contract.
A similar situation occurred with the rehabilitation of a bridge connecting Zeelugt North and Tuschen North, and First Cross Street-Aracari, which also faced significant delays. Minister Edghill assured residents that immediate measures are being taken to address these issues. The government has reiterated its commitment to terminating contracts that experience long delays to ensure timely and efficient project completion.
