-Insights from STEMGuyana’s Karen Abrams
In a recent interview with Village Voice, STEMGuyana Director Karen Abrams discussed the groundbreaking new AI tutor designed to revolutionize education for students in Guyana. This AI tutor, embedded within the IDBLab-sponsored software, aims to support the Learning Pod after-school tutoring program, initially developed to mitigate the educational disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Karen Abrams highlighted several innovative features of the AI tutor, which aligns with the Ministry of Education’s curriculum for K-12 students. “Our AI tutor offers a range of advanced capabilities, including reading lessons aloud, integrating tutorial videos, and providing real-time feedback. It even includes a quiz-correction feature that offers detailed explanations at a grade-appropriate level,” Abrams explained. These features are designed to provide a customized and enhanced educational experience for each student.
Looking ahead, Abrams emphasized the AI tutor’s potential impact on the educational landscape. “This AI tutor is not just a technological advancement; it is a source of hope. It extends the capabilities of excellent teachers by offering consistent, high-quality support, enabling students to learn at their own pace, anytime, anywhere,” she said. Following rigorous testing with various learner groups, the AI tutor will be rolled out across all Learning Pods and STEM clubs nationwide, ensuring equitable access to high-quality education for all Guyanese students.
