The shadow minister of education, the Hon. Natasha Singh-Lewis, in a post on Facebook to the Cyril Potter College of Education, 2023 graduates, extended “heartfelt congratulations” to graduates “for achieving a remarkable milestone”. The Member of Parliament stated, “Throughout your time in college, I know you faced numerous challenges and obstacles that tested your resilience and determination. The path to graduation is seldom smooth, and your ability to navigate through the storms speaks volumes about your strength of character. Despite the trials and tribulations, you stayed committed to your goals and demonstrated unwavering perseverance.”
MP Singh-Lewis noted that their academic “journey has not only been about academic achievements but also about personal growth and triumph over adversity, especially since you all had to deal with the challenge of COVID-19 pandemic. Your ability to overcome challenges, whether they were academic, personal, or a combination of both, is truly commendable.” “Your story is one of inspiration, (I am aware of a few of those stories) showing others that with dedication and hard work, even the most formidable challenges can be conquered especially being for teachers,” Singh-Lewis stated.
Over 1700 teachers graduated from CPCE, in what is said to be its largest cohort. Stabroek News reports, “Of the number, 477 teachers graduated from the Cyril Potter College of Education’s (CPCE’s) Early Childhood Education Programme, 841 from the Primary Education Programme, 238 from the Secondary Academic Programme and 240 from the Secondary Pre-Vocational Programme – a total of 1,796 trained teachers. Of the graduates, 66 graduated from the Trained Teachers’ Certificate Programme, while the remaining 1,730 graduated from the Associate Degree Programme.”
Shadow Minister of Education Singh-Lewis told graduates, “As you stand on the threshold of a new chapter in your life, remember that the resilience you developed during your college years will serve you well in all your future endeavours. You’ve not only earned the title of trained teacher but also a wealth of experience that will shape your path ahead. May this graduation be the beginning of a fulfilling journey filled with success, happiness, and continued personal growth. Cherish this moment, reflect on your achievements, and take pride in the strength you’ve demonstrated throughout your college career.”
