Here is the People’s National Congress Reform’s statement in full: The Opposition observes with deep concern the unsettling wave of social media commentary permeating our society, leaving the Guyanese people in a state of unease. The glaring absence of decisive action from the Government in addressing these concerns raises poignant questions about its commitment to bringing comfort and instilling confidence among our citizens, particularly those residing in Essequibo.

It is disheartening to witness the apparent inertia in response to the anxieties stemming from Venezuela’s claim to our Essequibo territory. The Opposition wishes to reiterate its unwavering commitment to collaborative efforts with the Government, emphasizing the need for unity in addressing these pressing matters. We stand ready to actively participate in any initiative aimed at fostering peace and ensuring genuine confidence among our Guyanese brethren, as we patiently await the ruling of the International Court of Justice.

Regrettably, numerous reports from Guyanese within the Essequibo regions have reached us, highlighting a disconcerting silence from the Government regarding their concerns. This state of affairs is not just lamentable; it is an affront to the principles of open and good governance and public accountability.

In light of these circumstances, the Opposition urgently calls upon the Government to move beyond mere rhetoric and demonstrate, through tangible actions, a genuine commitment to addressing the concerns of our people.

The safety and comfort of every Guyanese citizen, especially those in Essequibo, must be paramount. We implore the Government to redouble its efforts, engage with the Opposition and populace, and assuage the fears that linger within the hearts of our fellow countrymen.

Now, more than ever, is the time for decisive leadership and proactive measures to reassure the Guyanese people that their voices are heard, their concerns are acknowledged, and their well-being is a top priority. The Opposition stands as a willing partner in this endeavor, ready to collaborate for the greater good of our nation.
