Mahdia woman charged with attempted murder, husband wanted rice instead of plantain

[Guyana Police Force] Amanda Prince, a 37-year-old unemployed woman of Danju Hill, Mahdia, was arrested on 2023-11-20 and charged yesterday with ‘Attempt to Commit Murder’, contrary to Section 103(c) of Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01.
Prince is accused of attempting to murder her reputed husband Ashton Courtman, a 34-year-old Pump Attendant, on 2023-11-19 at Danju Hill, Mahdia.
The accused appeared at the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court yesterday, via Zoom, before Senior Magistrate Sunil Scarce. She was not required to plea and was remanded to prison. The next court date is 2023-12-12.
The victim and suspect have been living together for the past four (4) years. On 2023-11-19, at about 22:00 hrs, the husband and wife were both consuming alcohol (brown rum) at their home. Based on investigations, the suspect’s son asked her to fry plantain but the victim intervened and told his wife (suspect) that he did not want plantain and she needed to cook rice instead.
The woman reportedly got angry, armed herself with a small bread knife and allegedly dealt the victim one stab to his right side chest, which caused severe injuries.
On 20-11-2023, at about 10:00hrs, the victim left his home and went to Mahdia District Hospital, where he was seen and examined by a Doctor, who admitted him as a patient in a stable condition. The victim was later referred/Medevac to GPHC for further medical attention.
