On Thursday, October 12, 2023, 150 meters of Red Road, Providence, suddenly cracked and bulged, obstructing vehicular traffic from the entrance on the East Bank Public Road up to Massy Stores. It was chaos and confusion, as many were unaware of exactly what was happening.
According to Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill, engineers are of the opinion that the ”unusual event” was a result of the weight of the 30,000 tonnes of aggregate stockpiled on the Providence Stadium’s parking lot extension. The aggregate, he said, belongs to the Ministry of Public Works.
Minister Edghill stated that “it’s an unprecedented and deeply regrettable event” and continued by extending his apologies to the public. He also promised an immediate solution, including redistributing the stockpile and a comprehensive reconstruction of the affected road segment.”
