Leader of Guyana’s ‘A Partnership for National Unity and Alliance for Change’ (APNU+AFC) Parliamentary Opposition, Aubrey C. Norton sees the usual Peoples Progressive Party (PPP) Government’s wickedness in the matter of Member of Parliament David Patterson being blocked by the Peoples Progressive Party (PPP) Government from leaving Guyana for a high-level meeting between Norton’s team and US Congressional leaders.
Responding to our publication yesterday on the steps of Capital Hill, the Opposition Leader said, “We actually said to the meeting that we saw it as in the normal nature of the government’s dictatorial and authoritarian ways and that it was a deliberate attempt to show that David Patterson doesn’t get the opportunity to come, and that wasn’t the only one.”
The PNCR Leader said, “There were other things that they did that were aimed at ensuring that people don’t come to this Conference but fortunately we are here and we were able to point out to them that the treatment of David Patterson is a manifestation of the arbitrary dictatorial way of the government.”
Patterson was on his way to join the ten-member APNU+AFC Parliamentarians on September 26, 2023, for a meeting of the Opposition with the Congressional leaders. He was cleared by Customs and Immigration at the Cheddie Jagan International Airport (CJIA) but was later told by immigration officials that there was a no-fly message on the system which prevented him from travelling.
