Member of Parliament David Patterson, who is a part of the Parliamentary Opposition’s 10-member team for a high-level meeting with Congressional leaders and diaspora leaders at the two-day ‘Washington Conference on Guyana’, was today blocked from departing Cheddie Jagan International Airport (CJIA).
Credible Sources was able to confirm with Patterson what happened on his arrival at the CJIA. The Parliamentarian said “arrived at airport, cleared immigration and customs, was in the departure lounge, when an immigration officer came as told me that they made a mistake in clearing me, that the government placed a no-fly order on me.”
The AFC shadow Minister of Public Works said he then “called on Attorney at Law Nigel Hughes, who checked with the officer, who confirmed that there was no court order or anything such, just someone placing that note “in the system”. The law firm Hughes, Fields, and Stoby attempted to contact the senior ranks without success.”
CGID President Rickford Burke has since condemned the PPP actions via his Facebook page in the strongest terms. Burke said, “This Putin tactic by PPP racists and their henchmen in the Guyana Police Force, whose unlawful actions continue to incite racial hostilities, these repugnant attacks on black leaders are clearly calculated to ferment civil unrest in Guyana and intimidate the political opposition.”
The Washington Conference on Guyana commence September 27-28, 2023, bringing together “US Government officials, diaspora leaders and other stakeholders, for a robust and comprehensive dialog to foster pragmatic policies on Guyana that are aligned with American values, the international democratic ethos, and the ideals of the conference theme: “Promoting Inclusive Governance, Inclusive Growth, Equal Justice, Social Equality & Sustainable Development for All Guyanese in the Era of Oil and Gas”, accorddng to the Conference.
