“Friends, family, and favorites” of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) continue to be appointed to senior positions in Government. The PPP-led administration has appointed the brother of Guyana’s Attorney General, Anil Nandlall, as the new Chief Executive Officer of Guyana Power and Light Inc. Our publication did not see any advertising for the position.
Citizens who took to social media on the issue noted that if the Coalition ‘A Partnership for National Unity and Alliance for Change’ (APNU+AFC) had tried appointing a sibling without a public advertisement for an available position within the entity, “all hell would have broken loose” from the PPP with regards to nepotism.
The news of the new appointment comes via a Facebook Post made over a week ago by Kesh Nandlall which read, “I’m happy to share that I am starting a new position as Leader of Executive management at the Guyana Power and Light Inc.!”. Kesh Nandlall according to his Facebook profile lives in Mississauga, Ontario, and works as the Corporate Controller at Summitt Energy in Canada.
It was reported that the current CEO of Guyana Power and Light Inc., Bharrat Dindyal, has been ill for some time, but the PPP government has not informed the Guyanese public with regards to the new leadership at GPL nor have they advertised for the position anywhere. There has been no official announcement by the Government of Guyana.
