The People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) Party Leader, Aubrey Norton, said holding its congress in August could return, although the two-year life of the current executive expires in December.

The Party leader said in an August 8 press conference, There will be a Congress. What I can’t guarantee you is that it will be in December because there is also the view that we should return Congress to its statutory August. So that, going forward, it is back to its normal place.”

He added that the PNCR’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) will meet and decide on a timetable for holding the congress. The (CEC ) is the PNCR decision-making body of the Party. Mr Norton noted too that the 2021 Biennial Delegates Congress had been held in December because of the COVID-19 virus, adding that there was no rule stating that the next Congress must be held two years to the date of the last one.

The PNCR Leader further stated that the importance of holding Congress in August is because it is best and most conducive to doing so when schools are closed, which could be used to accommodate delegates.

“The Constitution says it is biannual. It didn’t say that it was held on the 21st of December 2021. There has always been that latitude. I recall at least one time, if I go back and I’ll check it, that for other reasons, it wasn’t held in August, but generally, our party Congress is held in August,” the PNCR leader stated.
