Shadow Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon. Amanza Walton-Desir (AWD) delivered a blistering rebuke to the Peoples Progressive Party (PPP) cabal during the 66th sitting of the National Assembly. Walton-Desir addressed the failures and incompetence of the PPP during the Parliamentary debate on the motion to increase the Debt Ceiling, both Internal and External. The lawless, vile, shameless, and bizarre behavior of the PPP Members of Parliament increased as the shadow Minister took the floor to set the record straight before the debate of the motion.
The Honorable Member told the House, “I was puzzled when I hear my colleagues from the other side speak and try to twist themselves into the pretzels that they find themselves in, trying to justify the unjustifiable”. She said the Honorable Member (Deodat) Indar spoke of social services and social benefits, while the Honorable Member Ashni Singh spoke of the year of 1971 specifically, and what happened over forty years ago.
AWD stated, “It occurred to me, Mr. Speaker, that the PPP has an inability to give credit where it is due because those social benefits that both the Honorable Minister ‘Vindy’ Persaud and the honorable member Mr. Indar just spoke concerning schemes implemented by the then PNC Government: The NIS, the social benefits and if I recall my history correctly they opposed it, the voted against it. The road network that you are building arteries on was built by the then PNC government the Harbour Bridge that the Bishop of infrastructure was holding press conference about was built by the then PNC administration,” Walton-Desir said. “And to think that they would come to this house and say that in the twenty-eight years of the PNC nothing happened when everything, the very foundation that they are proposing to build on was set by the PNC.”
Walton said tell that to people who don’t know their history adding: “Yuh gat to give Jack he jacket and gad knows all morning ah trying to give PPP a Jacket but all ah coming up with is the Skeldon Sugar Factory, ah coming up with the Amila Falls Project, ah coming up with the Specialty Hospital ah coming up with the Fibre Optic Cable, failure upon failure upon failure and you all have the temerity to come to this house to say that you know about building a country.” The Shadow Minister continued, “And then to boot they operate as if the 23 years in power that they were in power never existed so they go back to talk about the 28 years of the PNC Government forgetting that they had twenty three after that and want to talk about de five years and wuh we din do and wuh who do,” Walton-Desir extremely passionate in her delivery questioned.
“What did you do in the twenty three years, I will remind you that when the people of Guyana rose against this PPP/C government in 2015? It is because you had reduce this country into a narco state, you had reduce it to being blacklisted for money laundering, you had reduce it to one of the crime havens of the Caribbean, to a pariah state to quote the honorable member on the other side,” arms pointing the shadow Minister declared to the PPP Members of the National Assembly, “ That is your history”. Over the loud screams and wailing of the PPP members Walton-Desir continued, “ Hindsight is always 2020 and whilst everything wasn’t done perfectly I dare you to come here and pretend to be the paragons of virtue and the ones who can develop this country because you are not, everything you are building on was set by the PNC, so now that we have recalled the history correctly I will proceed to address this motion” she stated.
“Mr. Speaker can I have leave to continue, she asked over continued audible screaming of hungry belly, shouting and moaning from the PPP Members of Parliament she added that “Because these things called facts are some pesky little things and to hear the Honorable Vindhya Persaud come here and to tell that the non-oil segment grew when the Minister of Finance came in this house during the 2023 budget and said I regret that I must report a decline in the non-oil sector”, Walton-Desir said lets quote the Bank of Guyana Mid Term Report, “Sometime last year that report recorded a decline a in every sector and I remember sitting in this honorable house and I remember my colleague Vinceroy Jordan saying some things and at the time. They didn’t challenge it because they know it was the truth” she divulged.
The PPP’s 23 years in government commenced in 1992 and ended in 2015. During the PPP Government. Guyana had recorded over fourteen hundred unsolved murders, most during the Bharrat Jagdeo Presidency, with the narco trade rampant and the country in a downward spiral. The unsolved murder of the PPP Minister of Agriculture Satadeyaow Sawh which the PPP is yet to open an inquiry on was the opener to what was called ‘ The Troubles’ in Guyana. The daily discovery of cocaine in lumber, sugar, rice, fish, roti, chicken, on airplanes and boats, abandoned planes and new air strips in different parts of Guyana’s Hinterland and coastland, suitcase and in shoes. drive-by shootings, bank robberies, and the Bartica, Lindo creek and Lusignan massacres were the daily, monthly and yearly topics of the newspapers and the man in the street.
