Attorney at Law Roysdale Forde, Managing Member of the Guyana Public Service Cooperative Credit Union Trevor Benn, and accompanying members of the Credit Union visited the Union’s location to officially inform those it management of the Judge’s ruling in the petition filed against the Union by its members.
Attorney Forde, Shadow Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, informed Adeola Griffith, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Union that “Justice Navindra Singh ruled that three persons Karen Vansluytman-Corbin, Gillian Pollard, and Ruth Howard must not partake or exercise and functions in relation to the ruling.”
Forde added that, “The court also specifically ruled that Benn, Ragdai Jaggernauth and Patrick Mentore are to assume the necessary functions that the three of them previously held, and that that order takes effect immediately,” he explained in a video posted on Facebook.
Forde further explained that he believed it was his duty to inform the CEO of the court’s ruling to exercise the functions of management so that she will be able to “facilitate and corporate with their exercise of those specific functions going forward.”
Questioned on whether she understood the ruling Griffith had no comment but indicated that Ms Jaggernauth is out of the country. Managing member Trevor Benn noted that ,“ I understand all of the persons names are traveling on Credit Union business.” He stated that “Two things I would like to say in relation to the judges order, one, that the three people named will take responsibility for whats going on in the credit union going forward and secondly the earlier decision of the court with respect to the holding of special general meeting be the priority of the credit union.”
Benn added that the business of the Credit Union will not be stopped but all functions performed by the three who are named in the petition will cease until a further decision by the judge. September is set the continuation of the case.
The lawyer also advised that having been appointed by the court and taking control of a financial organization, “It would be prudent to have an audit done to make an assessment as to where the organization is now and what would have happened prior to the courts order.” Griffith agreed, saying, “It is prudent to have the audit done given the change.”
Managing Member Trevor Benn noted that one of the issue that continued is the what he called excessive amount of money spent on traveling under the Patrick Yard leadership which has continued under Karen Vansluytman. “So one specific request I would have is a list of all travel completed in the last year and the cost associated with those travels,” he stated.
