Hill Foot residents take protest action to Central Housing

Protest action was taken to the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA) by the residents of Hill Foot Soesdyke, Linden Highway. Residents’ homes were bulldozed by the PPP/C administration on May 31st, 2023.

One protester noted that, “My house was been broke down I have nowhere to go and I feel real reject by the president and neglect knowing this country have oil business gold business sugar business gold business and all kinkda a business, no help for poor people, we house was been broke down with no notice.”

Another protester said “ said I gah me wife, ah gah two son and me three grand-children, we deh separate now cause I aint gah nowhere fuh put them.” Another protester added that, “Them promised we a house lot two months ago and them have we under tarpaulin and up to now no minister nah come. They ah only share food hamper ,we nah need food, we need a home, we nah ah ask yuh for the acre of Guyana we need a home, police ah come we can’t guh to wuk.”

The residents said were forced to protest because of the harassment and confusing offers given to many of them by the employees of the CHPA. After their homes were bulldozed they were visiting the government and CH&PA for compensation but were being offered land and homes way beyond their budget. Many of those on the protest line were being told to return but given another offer which they said were frustrating them.
