A group that fronts for the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) in the United States, the Guyana Democracy Project (GDP), is crying fowl as several of its members were allegedly disinvited from a meeting with New York State Attorney General Letitia James.
Members of the group have said the meeting was meant to discuss charges of racism in Guyana made by James in October 2022. The invitees were restricted to 25, but some of the most active and grounded leaders in the community were suddenly excluded.
The GDP states that the meeting appears to have a pre-determined agenda and that the exclusion of “legitimate stakeholders” could end up giving legitimacy to previous unsubstantiated statements attributed to the Attorney General.
The pro-PPP GDP says it hopes that the meeting is not a “publicity stunt”. The group says the meeting has since been converted into a dinner, but that it remains concerned that the AG will not get a true description of the factual situation in Guyana.
