Singer R Kelly sentenced to 20 years, already serving 30

Singer R Kelly has been sentenced to twenty years in prison. The prosecution argued that R Kelly’s sentence should be added to the thirty years he is already serving for racketeering and sex trafficking.

Kelly, 56, was “likely to die in prison” according to his attorney, Jennifer Bonjean, who is appealing his sentence. He was cleared of two additional counts of inducing minors to engage in sexual activity as well as one charge related to obstructing an earlier investigation into the abuse of his goddaughter.

Throughout his career, the singer of “I Believe I Can Fly” has been accused repeatedly of sexual misconduct and abuse, which he has denied.

In 2017, an article by Buzzfeed claimed that Kelly had taken advantage of six women and trapped them in a sex “cult.” In July 2019, Kelly was detained and accused of sex trafficking offenses, including possessing images of child abuse and impeding the legal process.
