This week Budget 2023 has moved on to the scrutiny of the Estimates and Expenditures after the recent debates in the National Assembly. The Government has been in overdrive in its Public Relations effort to sell the budgetary measures to citizens.
Citizens see the Ali-led administration’s budget as a “bluff” and the residents of Berbice, Region 6, are very skeptical as they say some budget promises from two years ago are yet to materialize.
Among the plethora of promises made in past budgets, a Synthetic Track for the ‘Ancient County’ is yet to commence. When our publication visited the area earmarked for the project there was no noticeable work in progress at the site.
In the Region, there have been accusations of corruption, nepotism, and cronyism in the award of contracts. Whatever the reasons for the delay of the project, Berbice residents say this is another example of false promises made by the administration and the government is not working in their interest.
