Police Corporal Dwayne Mc Pherson has succumbed after being allegedly accidentally shot by his colleague. According to reports, Mc Pherson and other officers were on duty in Huntley, Mahaicony early Sunday morning when the incident occurred. Marlon Budburgh and Kishan Budburgh were also reportedly shot at the scene. Kishan Budburgh has succumbed to his injuries.
Additionally, police are investigating a shooting that occurred at the MovieTowne parking lot that left Olofi Dossantos injured. Reports indicate that the incident occurred as Dossantos joined a tussle between security guards and his two friends at the Outside Bar and Lounge while leaving, early Sunday morning.
Eyewitnesses stated that during the fight, gunshots were fired and Dossantos fell to the ground. It is still unclear who fired the shots, but Dossantos is reportedly nursing several gunshot wounds at a private hospital.
President Irfaan Ali noted in his New Year’s Day address to the nation that investments in public security have led to a decline in serious crime by 19%. Still, he acknowledged how much crime had spiraled, saying, “The New Year will also witness intensified efforts at arresting criminal activities.”
