Linden residents cry foul, football ground dug up despite pleas

Residents of Linden, Region 10, pleaded with the authorities not to dig up Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) Ground during the Christmas season so that football could have been played. Their pleadings fell on deaf ears as “enhancement” work recently began on the Ground.

Football is a beloved sport for Lindeners. Every year-end the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) would host a tournament in the community Mac Kenzie community where the Sports Club is located. Lindeners had hoped the work on the Ground would be delayed until January.

The current enhancement project, expected to be completed in February 2023, is one of three to be funded by the Government of Guyana (the others are in Anna Regina and New Amsterdam), the MSC has been the home of international cricket and football over the years and following confirmation will accommodate ICC and FIFA matches.
