Terrence Hope left Guyana recently to spend time with his relatives in the United Kingdom (UK) but was denied entry into the UK after border officials alleged he had insufficient funds and needed a visa to enter the UK. Guyana recently begun to benefit from visa-free travel to the UK.
Looking on the positive side of the experience, Hope says he thanks God for the opportunity “to even meet so far” and for a safe flight. In a Facebook post, Hope said that contrary to opinions expressed on social media he did not have a one-way ticket and that the “treatment I received from the UK it was terrible”.
“These people take away my wallet, phone, bags, everything. Could not make contact with anyone. The hurtful thing my sister was right outside. Even she couldn’t come in, not even a hug. I was really excited to see my sister.”
Hope said in his post, “Despite the amount of money I had on me, the treatment was unreasonable, fingerprint, photograph, smh. I even went so far as telling them my sister has money outside for me and if it’s ok she [can] bring it in for evidence and they denied me.”
Hope wondered what would have happened if he was caught with “drugs”. He stated, “With all said and done, it’s not the end of the road. God see what I was not seeing.”
