New York’s Attorney General (AG) Letitia James, speaking at the Guyanese Diaspora Town Hall Meeting in Brooklyn on Sunday, October 30, 2022, said, “Guyana needs strong democratic institutions.” AG James stated, “We cannot ignore it, we can put blinders on when people are struggling. And people of African ancestry should not be treated like second and third-class citizens, not in this country or any other country.”
“We are obviously concerned about any destabilizing force on Guyana and clearly all of the allegations that have been made this evening suggest that there are problems and that they need to be looked at, they need to be examined, the AG said to the rapturous applause of the scores of people who filled the Woodbine Ballroom.
Attorney General Letitia James is known for her fearless pursuit of justice and brought a lawsuit against former President of the United States Donald Trump last month. According to the New York Times AG James “filed a sweeping lawsuit… that accused Donald J. Trump, his family business, and three of his children of lying to lenders and insurers by fraudulently overvaluing his assets by billions of dollars.”
At last night’s Town Hall James said, “I will along with my Democratic Attorney Generals across the country will be calling upon the Department of Justice as well as the Biden administration to look into the allegations that have been put forth this evening.” AG James stated, “We believe that discrimination should be called out we believe that racism should be called out, we try to call out class struggles as well.”
