Jamaican popular vlogger and music producer “Dr. Love”, Christopher Crooks, is extricating himself from a Jamaica-Guyana work program that has all the appearance of a scam. The program promises lucrative jobs in Guyana with wages pegged at $400 American dollars per week including security work. There is a small “finder’s fee” for leading desperate seekers to ‘El Dorado’.
Dr. Love took to social media recently to clear his name, admitting that he had set up a WhatsApp group initially for that specific purpose with the hope of finding Jamaicans work as it was represented to him “Sharon Blackwood” could help. The endeavor has turned into a nightmare for many who are now left empty-handed.
During Dr. Love’s two-hour-long live program, the infamous Sharon made an appearance via telephone. “I don’t quite remember how the program started and whatever may be, but you asked me if the program is legit and I said yes that I can get people work over there. Many people who go over there and work never had no problem.”
Sharon recounts that one person named “Phlisha” wanted a job in Guyana but that she never took any fee from her. “She tell me that she want work over there and she sent me fifty-thousand dollars and afterward she sent me and she sent me a hundred and thirty-four thousand dollars. I buy the ticket. She said I buy a one-way ticket. There is no way you can buy a one-way ticket to go to Guyana and you don’t come from there, when you go to the airport they are asking you for a return date.”
Dr. Lover asks, “Did you ever get any job for any of the people that come to Guyana?” Sharon responds, “I get jobs for many people but I didn’t get any job for Phlisha.” Sharon says many people came to Guyana and went back to Jamaica and added that one person is even about to marry a Guyanese. Sharon contends that once Jamaicans come to Guyana they are given a six-months stay and they do not need a work permit to be employed.
Dr. Love says he has never taken any money from Sharon Blackwood, even though he initially set up the WhatsApp group, he exited the group a long time ago but intervened now because his name is being called.
