Food prices up 32% under PPP – Bureau of Statistics report

With wages continuing to stagnate under the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) regime, Guyanese are faced with ever-skyrocketing food prices. Guyana’s Bureau of Statistics reported that food prices in August were 31.8% higher than it was under the APNU+AFC government.

The reality is that a family with a monthly food budget of $100,000 must now find $132,000 to cover food purchases. But where is that extra $32,000 coming from?

Public servants continue to see no meaningful pay increase. Youth unemployment has reached an all-time high of 31.9% as 42,000 Guyanese search for work, according to the most recent data published by the Bureau of Statistics.

There have been no steps taken by the ruling PPP to either reduce the cost of living or increase the income of households to meet the higher prices.
