People Progressive Party (PPP) activist Ossie Rogers, who a Bath Supermarket camera captured brutally assaulting a woman, has broken his silence on the issue. Well sort of.
Rogers, a Guyanese who resides in the United States (US), was allowed by the regime to return to the US over the weekend after being released on self-bail and still being under investigation. Video captured Rogers punching the woman several times.
He took to social media today on the issue but only to say he would be issuing a statement tomorrow. “I would be issuing a statement tomorrow Tuesday, October 18th as it relates to the video circulating on social media”, Rogers said in a post on Facebook.
The PPP activist said, “I appreciate the thousands of messages of support and concerns. I also appreciate your patience because I am fully aware you have a right to hear from me and in a timely manner.”
No PPP official has spoken on the issue. Over the weekend head of the PPP administration, Irfaan Ali launched a “thousand men” initiative aimed at mitigating violence against women, among other things, but did not address the issue which has gone viral on social media.
On our affiliate morning talk show “FYI”, co-host and Member of Parliament Sherod Duncan labeled Ali a “hypocrite” for not tackling the issue head. He said Ali needed to set his own house in order before dealing with anyone else.
