Gov’t off today for fun at Splashmins

In an effort to recover from the tiring days of his last week of attending to matters of cricket and frenetic weekend stage hopping President Irfaan Ali took ministers of his government, advisors, and other senior functionaries for a day at Splashmins Resort on the Linden / Soesdyke Highway, twenty-five miles outside the city.

The workday of government officials was interrupted when cellphones rang and officials were told only that there would be a meeting at the Providence Stadium, East Bank, on the periphery of the city. We are told this was part of the surprise trip. Once there, officials were taken by Guyana Defence Force (GDF) buses to the highway location for the all-expense-paid day of fun in the sand and sun.

Though very tight-lipped about the occasion, insiders have said little official work is expected to be done at the venue. Ali seems to shun the toil of attending to official matters of state and prefers the cocktail circuit or sharing his time with the likes of Machel Montano, center stage. Ali and the government team are expected to be at the venue into the evening.
