On Friday night, September 23, 2022, a motor vehicle traveling south on the new Mandela / Eccles Access Road hit and killed two cows that were in the roadway.
The driver of the vehicle said that the animals were several moving along the roadway when he encountered them and while he thought he had passed all of them, he unavoidably hit two which ran into his path.
The new road is built on former cane fields and pasture lands and though the Access Road is a welcomed link to the East Bank, animals grazing in that area and along the road is a regular feature.
