There was chaos and pandemonium recently after a route 44 Minibus was ‘written off’ by Andrew Albert aka “Pace and power” on the Good Hope East Coast Demerara Public Road. The accident which claimed the life of two persons occurred in front of the Muneshwar’s Hardware store.
According to a statement from the Guyana Police Force (GPF), inquiries into the fatal accident revealed that minibus BAB 4746 was proceeding along the southern drive lane of the northern carriageway, while pick-up GNN 3048 was proceeding along the same lane in front of the minibus when the driver of the minibus attempted to overtake the pick-up.
As the minibus was overtaking the pickup, it suddenly lost control and crashed into the motor lorry, GAC 6803, which was parked along the Good Hope Public Road. The accident has left 38-year-old Annalisa Lackhan-Haynes of Lot 81 Gopie Street, Buxton, ECD dead and her family in mourning. The driver Andrew Albert aka “Pace and power” of Lamaha Park, Georgetown was also killed instantly in the smash-up. Lackhan was reportedly sitting in the front seat of the bus.
At the time of the accident, the bus was heading to Victoria on the East Coast Demerara with approximately fifteen passengers on board at a high rate of speed. The impact of the crash caused the minibus to turn turtle several times, smashing into a parked lorry and a horse cart and then colliding with the rear of motorcar PLL 5535. Both Albert, and Lisa were pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency Services were summoned, and some persons were treated and sent away while others were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation with serious injuries to the head, back, neck, and other parts of the body.
Albert a former policeman, is no stranger to reckless driving, back in 2018 he struck down 8-year-old Matthew Zaman along the East Coast Public Road. The accident left Zaman bedridden and paralyzed. The young Matthew, now twelve years old, along with his mother recently spoke to the media about the hardships they are forced to live with every day. The mother explained that she was forced to quit her job to stay at home and care for her son who can’t really do anything for himself since the accident.
“It hard on me one, is me alone does have to take care of he…me not working anymore so is me lone,” she explained. She was at the time pleading for the public’s assistance in caring for her son. Albert was charged back in 2018 with dangerous driving and was released on $100,000 bail. The then policeman never returned to court and the case went cold. It is unclear how or who facilitated the then officers dodging prosecution for almost five years.
