Guyana records increase in Monkeypox Virus

The Minister of Minister Dr. Frank Anthony, this morning confirmed that Guyana has recorded its second case of the Monkeypox Virus.

The Health Minister made the announcement during his daily update on the National Communications Network (NCN).

The Minister did not provide any details on where exactly the new case was recorded or if the Government is considering any preventative measures to contain the spread of the virus.

Guyana confirmed its first Monkeypox case last week. The Minister had reported that a 57-year-old bus driver from Region Four had tested positive for the virus and was in isolation as local health authorities started the process of contact tracing and testing.

The Ministry also has not provided any update on “patient zero” current condition.
