Bascom ready to defend allegations, requires witness protection -Hughes

Sergeant Dion BascomOn Saturday, August 13, 2022, a defiant Sergeant Dion Bascom in the face of law firm Poonai and Poonai threatening multimillion-dollar lawsuits declared that he was standing by all he had said earlier in the week in a Facebook live video.

Poonai and Poonai, which served three lawyers letters on Bascom, August 12, 2022, represents all three persons, senior policeman Mitchell Caesar, businessman Azruddin Mohamed, and agent of Mohamed Enterprise Mark Richmond, Bascom alleges were involved in the interference and cover-up in the murder investigations of Ricardo Fagundes, aka, Paper Shorts.

The firm wants Bascom to withdraw his statements, apologize or face litigation. Today law firm Hughes, Fields, and Stoby representing Bascom said in a letter to Poonai and Poonai, “our client rejects the demands contained in several letters and has instructed to inform you that the contents of the broadcast are true in substance and in fact.”

Senior Partner in Hughes, Fields and Stoby Attorney at Law Nigel Hughes stated in the missive, “We are finally instructed to inform you, as we hereby do, that should your clients contemplate the commencement of any of the proceedings contained in your letter, they will be stoutly defended.”

Additionally, in a separate letter to President Irfaan Ali Hughes also informed him of the allegations of “improper conduct  of the lead investigators who were charged with the responsibility of investigating the murder of Ricardo Fegundes…. which have caused the investigation to be stalled and frustrated.”

Hughes said, “Our client is also fearful that the lead investigator and other officers of the Guyana Police force who are involved in the investigation into the Fegundes murder will target him as a result of his exposures. He requested “witness protection” for Bascom stating, “We fear that the life of our client is in grave danger. He reiterated, as well, “Our client stands by the statements he made and is prepared to testify under oath.”
