Yesterday was one of the bloodiest Mondays in our country’s history as two women were murdered in the space of hours by persons they knew. Additionally, a Venezuelan National was also killed, yesterday, when a Sand Truck reversed and crushed him to death on the East Bank Public Road.
The first bloodshed was recorded at Corentyne Berbice. According to reports 24-year-old Cindy Ramchandar of, Number 47 Village, Corentyne, Berbice was stabbed to death by her ex-husband with whom she had separated two months ago. He has been identified as Suraj Ganpat of Cumberland Village, East Canje.
Ramchandar was on her way to visit a relative on her electric scooter when Ganpat attacked and stabbed her multiple times before escaping. A manhunt has since been launched by the police for his capture.
The second woman to be murdered yesterday was 28-year-old Vanessa Anderson, a mother of three children and a resident of Sophia. Police have confirmed that Vanessa was stabbed to death at B-Field Sophia after an alleged confrontation with two women said to be sisters.
Both women turned themselves into the police just after the incident last night and are in police custody assisting with investigations.
Kaieteur News is reporting that Francisco Simosa, a Venezuelan national was also killed on Monday around 5:30hrs after a truck reversed and crushed him along the Sarah Johanna Public Road on the East Bank of Demerara.
According to the report he was heading to work at Bounty Farm and was waiting for a bus at the corner of the road when the truck suddenly reversed. One eyewitness said that he tried to raise an alarm for the truck to stop but the driver did not hear him in time and ended up running over Simosa.The driver of the truck is presently in police custody as investigations continue.
Yesterday’s killings followed the brutal murder of Hog Island farmer Romeo Randolph also known as “Fine Boy.” He was found floating in the Essequibo River on Sunday morning around 8:00hrs.
The 36-year-old who was planning to celebrate his birthday on Monday but was reported missing by family members on Thursday after he didn’t return home from work. A police investigation has since been launched into the matter.
