PPP can’t tell us anything about the law and democracy -Norton

A Partnership for National Unity and Alliance For Change, and WPA held the first of what is to be many more rallies against the PPP dictatorship rule yesterday at Burnham Court, Georgetown.

The main speaker at the event was PNC leader and leader of the Opposition Aubrey Norton who warned the nearly five thousand in attendance that the country is currently run like a dictatorship under the PPP.

“Let us be clear in our heads, we are facing a very dictatorial regime, we are facing a regime that is prepared to violate the rule of law. They can’t tell us anything about democracy, they do know not the rule of law. They are lawless, they are corrupt and that is why we will confront them”, Norton told supporters.

Two years after being installed in Government, the Ali-led PPP regime has been facing strong criticisms from local and international organizations for its failure to shun corruption and racism in Government.

The US Government in a recent statement cited the need for inclusiveness and transparency in Guyana during Irfaan Ali’s week-long meeting with the State Department and other US government officials last week.

Chair of the House Democratic Caucus, United States Congressman Hakeem Jeffries had late last year called on the PPP Government to address allegations of racism in Guyana.

“We stand in solidarity with each and every one of you to deal with the situation down in Guyana, we will not tolerate racism, intolerance, hatred, xenophobia, racially motivated violence, discrimination, and injustice in Guyana,” Jeffries told a pro- Democracy rally in New York.

In June of this year, the Congressman was forced to address the issue again, this time at a Seventh-day Adventist church service in New York on an occasion called “Guyana Day.” Jeffries told the gathering that we are not going to tolerate racism in here, we are not going to tolerate racism down in Guyana either and we going to continue to do everything necessary to get things moving in a fairer more equitable direction,” he said to loud applause.
