Husband and wife shot dead in T&T by wife’s “ex-lover”

The Trinidad Expressed is reporting this morning that a husband and his wife were both shot dead in Las Cuevas yesterday morning. The incident, which is said to arise out of a love affair gone sour, took place at Rincon Road, Las Cuevas.

Hollis Valdez and his wife Shereen Bailey-Valdez, who were both lifeguards, were asleep at the time when Franklyn Clement a security officer came and murdered them, he then fled the crime scene in a pickup van.

The couple had separated for a short period of time, while separated Shireen Bailey Valdez had started a love affair with Clement but sometime later Shireen reconciled with her husband and started to live together once again, ending her relationship with Clement.

Residents of Rincon Road, North Coast Road were upset, crossed, and expressed anger at the inaction of the police in initiating a search party to locate the suspect. Residents and the victim’s family fear Franklyn, who was armed with a licensed pistol and considered extremely dangerous, might have returned to their community and killed other persons.

On the other hand, relatives of Clement believe that the murdered woman Shireen Bailey Valdez had worked obeah on him, which they said was responsible for him going on a killing spree. Franklyn reportedly emptied his bank account prior to the incident in which villagers believe was premeditated.

He was later found dead from a single gunshot wound at his home after police went in search of him. Police suspect he committed suicide.
