Ann Greene sent home; CC&PA being run by inexperienced political appointees

After more than 50 years of dedicated public service the head of the Child Care and Protection Agency (CC&PA), Ann Green, B. Sc, M. Sc., M.S has thrown in the towel after an illustrious career.

A source at the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security head office located at Lamaha and East Streets, Georgetown told this publication that ‘It was long time coming, they wanted her gone easily but she like her work and kept holding on.”

A list was shown to this publication of three persons hired over the past year to augment the vacuum that Greene’s departure will give rise to.

Staff at the Child Care and Protection Agency when contacted for comments, were hesitant to provide any detailed information, except a confirmation that Ms. Greene bid them farewell at an impromptu meeting and that her office was cleaned out with renovation work commencing the next day.

When pressed about the morale prevailing in the work environment, two staff noted that there is much uncertainty since Senior Probation and Social Services Officers who have supervised the Department for years are being overlooked for elevation.

One staff who spoke with our publication on condition of anonymity said, “…these new hires never went UG and never did social work before, but they here making decisions based on emotion and the way they feel about real issues and the lives of children and the happiness of their families.”

“…you can’t talk to them because they report directly to the Minister,” the individual noted.

The Stabroek News recently reported a “fake” Psychologist was operating out of the CC&PA Cornhill Street office right under the nose of the new management without detection.  The, so far, nameless individual was carrying on counselling sessions with women and children involved in domestic violence and sexual abuse cases. They have been called in and an investigation is presently ongoing.

Greene Joined the Public Service in June 1972 at the Ministry of Agriculture as a clerk. In 1985 she joined the probation staff of the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security and remained in that position for 16 years.

Anne Greene’s dedication to the fight for Human Rights culminated with her elevation to the Directorship of the Child Care Agency. She was awarded the Declaration of the European Union for work in Human Rights advancement in January 2020.

Director Greene joins the list of hundreds of Guyanese who were either dismissed or pushed out of work by the Irfaan Ali PPP government, which has been accused of systematic discrimination against women and minorities inside and outside its political establishment.

We wish this dedicated career public servant all the best in her future endeavors.
