Following a growing mountain of controversy, which led to sixty persons resigning from the British government, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that he will be resigning from the office of Prime Minister.
“It is clearly now the will of the (governing) conservative party that there should be a new leader of that party and therefore a new Prime Minister and the process of choosing that new leader should begin now,” Johnson stated as he announced his resignation.
Johnson came to lead the conservative party after his pivotal role in championing the cause for the United Kingdom to leave the European Union. Johnson made a successful ‘BREXIT’ the primary mandate and focus of his government and now that the process is completed, he will be passing the torch to new conservative leadership.
Though he would like to be remembered for Brexit, many will remember his administration for its response and attitude to the COVID pandemic. With callous disregard for the COVID policies of his government, Johnson hosted many “covid parties” while the common people committed to social distancing and faced multiple COVID lockdowns.
It was the public becoming aware of his COVID parties that marked the beginning of the end for his government. With Brexit becoming less popular as time passes, history might not be kind to Boris Johnson.
