In a damning investigative report published by Vice Media on Showtime, Leader of the PPP Bharrat Jagdeo is shown in the act of pledging favors for any investor that is brought to him by his friend Su. “You will get the support. Su is my friend, he will get all the support,” Jagdeo assured the reporters who were posing as a Chinese businessman and his secretary. Jagdeo made it clear that working with Su will guarantee the investor favors from the PPP government.
While Jagdeo made it clear that the PPP government wanted investors to work through Su, Su demanded payments for setting up the meeting with Jagdeo. Su was also recorded assuring the reporters that payments to him for his role in setting up the meeting with Jagdeo was going to go to Jagdeo himself.
During the meeting with Jagdeo the reporter said to Su, in what appeared to be mandarin, “I have to know that the money is going to him (Jagdeo)”. Su replied, “Don’t worry I’ll give him the money with you (present)”.
Calling Jagdeo “my boss”, Su explained the nature of their arrangement. Jagdeo gives favors to whatever investor uses Su’s services as a consultant. Su then claimed that he takes a cut of the consulting fees and then gives the bulk of the payment, which is clearly a bribe, to Jagdeo with no paper trail.
Su showed the reporter documents which the reporter claims were contracts for his services to other investors. Most notable is the claim that his unique services were given to the Chinese company which won the contract to build the Amelia Falls Hydropower dam. Leader of the Opposition Aubrey Norton has called for a full investigation into these claims. The PPP government has so far refused to investigate any of these allegations.
