GUYSUCO’s worst output, under PPP regime

Only 13,076 tons of sugar were produced in the first sugar crop for 2022. This is the worst output ever recorded by the Guyana Sugar Corporation, GUYSUCO. In 2019 Guyana produced 156% more sugar in the first crop with an output of 33,531.

This year’s first crop falls short of the PPP’s production target by 35.5%. With the current rate of production hitting only 64.5% of production targets, GUYSUCO could expect to produce as little as 42,000 tons of sugar in 2022. Down from the 92,246 tons produced in 2019 under the APNU+AFC government.

The biggest issue facing GUYSUCO is the Uitvlugt Estate which produced just 66 tons of sugar in the first crop. Under the Coalition government, Uitvlugt had produced 20,270 tons in 2019.
