US Congressman, Hakeem Jeffries vowed not to tolerate racism in Guyana, according to the video posted on the Meta page of Rickford Burke on Saturday, June 11 2022 at 9:36 PM (https://fb.watch/dC_G_ZAIZq/).
In the video seen by this publication, the US House Democratic Chairman declared: ‘We are not gonna tolerate racism here and we are not going to tolerate racism down in Guyana and we will do everything to get things moving in a fairer more equitable direction’. He was speaking to an audience at the Guyana Day Service on Saturday, June 11, 2022.
This declaration marks another chapter of public castigations of the Jagdeo/Ali regime by senior members of the US Congress on the question of racism and the equitable distribution of the resources of the country.
In 2021, the Chairman of the Congressional subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, Albio Sires made similar a call by stating: “In Guyana, where I traveled this year, we should work to ensure that proceeds of oil revenues benefit the entire population”.
In June 2021, Democratic Congressman, Hank Johnson stated: “Guyana’s wealth is for all the people of Guyana, irrespective of their ethnicity. I urge the current government and leaders of the opposition in the National Assembly to work together towards further strengthening Guyana’s democracy and building a more inclusive nation”.
These calls by the senior US Congressional leaders are in concert with the statements, concerns, and criticisms leveled at the Jagdeo/Ali regime by all political parties and stakeholders in Guyana and the diaspora. These concerns stem from the blatant practice by the Jagdeo/Ali regime to starve APNU-AFC supporters of resources and only reward those who support the PPP.
