The relationship has not been perfect but it was and remains very necessary. All of the data suggest that the PPP must be confronted with an amalgamation of parties. The Coalition has been a journey of trust, collaboration, networking, compromise, and frankly, ups and downs.
Throughout all the challenges, everyone understood that the common denominator has been the need to protect Guyana from the domination of the PPP. The electoral evidence has been laid bare over and over, standalone parties will find it difficult to ensure that the PPP does not get its hand on the treasury.
If that was pressing a few years ago, it is intensely pertinent today. Let us face it frontally, and accept the reality: with state power and massive corruption money, the PPP is a more formidable political force that requires massive discipline and organization to conquer.
“IF WE SEPARATE, WE DIE ALONE!”, party insiders say.
As a consequence, the APNU+AFC Coalition must forget whatever distrust and disgruntlement exist and remain together to confront this juggernaut that is on the march to dominate Guyana forever. It is absolute madness to contemplate separation at this time.
Our oil bonanza is in danger, Local Government Elections are looming, there are several Elections Petition before the courts, we are two years out from another General Election and the PPP is heavily organized. The political disaster that looms with a split in the Coalition will gift power to the PPP for the next 50 years. It is simple as that. Those who seek to head down this path must think about this.
“NOBODY IS SUGGESTING THAT THE AFC CANNOT SURVIVE ALONE. NOBODY IS SUGGESTING THAT THE AFC MUST STAY IN THE COALITION FOREVER. WE ARE SIMPLY SAYING THAT NOW IS NOT THE TIME!”
The AFC 7th Biennial National Conference offers the opportunity for the Coalition to demonstrate true democracy, remain in the Coalition and prepare to take back the reins of power. The day of reckoning has come, and it literally does or die.
