Forbes Burnham: Events can be cancelled but Legacies live on

On Monday, May 23, the Burnham Foundation informed the nation via social media about the government’s attempts to cancel Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham. In a press release, the organization noted:

This morning at 8:45 a.m. The Forbes Burnham Foundation received a call from the National Library indicating that the exhibition for which permission had been given on April 25, 2022, could no longer be held since the Library will be using the foyer for its own activity”

This development is in lockstep with the Jagdeo/Ali regime’s attempts to revise history by promoting the PPP cult heroes as saints and fathers of the nation. Such a monumental decision is outside of the brief of the Chief Librarian and one would be ridiculously naïve to believe that this fiat did not emerge from Shiv Chanderpaul Drive, possibly from the office of the Second Vice President.

Thus far, there has been an opera silence from the regime and the ‘One Guyana’ mantra has come to the rescue of the Burnham Foundation. Ali has not issued a whisper on the matter. Therefore, the question is begged: what did Ali know and when did he know it? Did he issue the order?

The principal Minister, Priya Manickchand under whose guise the library falls, has not engaged in her usual postings on Meta. Therefore, it is safe for this publication to assume that the government is either too busy or agrees wholeheartedly with the Chief Liberian.

But certainly, Ms. Emily King would not venture into such deep waters. As result, we can safely assume to this was an attempt by the Jagdeo/Ali regime to cancel a national figure and revise the history of Guyana.
