Burnham Foundation “denied” access to the National Library

In what is being dubbed a “politically malicious” and “spiteful” act by the installed PPP regime on the eve of our 56th Independence Anniversary, the National Library recently denied the Burnham Foundation usage of the National Library for the hosting of an Independence Commemorative Exhibition from May 23 to 28 in the foyer of the National Library.

According to the Foundation, Permission was sought from the Library on April 25, 2022, and was granted. Additionally, a site visit was paid on May 18, 2022, on which occasion all the details for the mounting of the exhibition were finalized.

Shockingly, as the event was set to kick off on May 23rd, the organizers received a phone call from the Chief Librarian, in which she indicated that permission was being withdrawn since the Library needed the facility for its own use.

The Chief Librarian did not provide to the Foundation any further details on the sudden cancelation. However, the Foundation is alleging that a political directive was handed down to the Librarian to disallow the mounting of the Exhibition by the Burnham Foundation. According to a press release by the Foundation, the PPP once again is showing its dictatorial hand in its attempt to rewrite Guyana`s history and to impose itself on the people of Guyana through the total control of the political, social, and economic landscape, while the President mouths “One Guyana” for local and global consumption.

Chairman of the Burnham Foundation, Vincent Alexander noted that the Foundation is a non-governmental organization committed to the commemoration and the memorialization of the life of the Leader who lead Guyana to Independence. He said that the Foundation is left with no other alternative but to join forces with the true democrats of Guyana in the struggle to reclaim their rightful space and entitlements as citizens of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.
