More Elections Payback: The Jagdeo/Ali regime and the Commonwealth elections

It has become the litmus test for support from the Jagdeo/Ali regime, from a simple government service to support at the elections of a multilateral agency. If a simple request to meet the top echelons of the Jagdeo/Ali regime is made, the question is asked: where were you during the five months protracted period?

If it is determined that you were silent or on the side of credible and valid votes, you are denied the opportunity for a simple meeting. The question has its origins with the Guyana 2020 March elections which resulted in five months of protraction because on the day of voting, there was widespread fraud in mostly PPP/C strongholds.

This resulted in the creation of Order 60 which was not honored due to geopolitical bullying. As a result, the Jagdeo/Ali regime now uses that period as a yardstick for measuring allegiance to the People’s Progressive Party.

Thankfully for Baroness Scotland, she was the Commonwealth Secretary-General (SG) during that period and issued several statements in support of the fraudulent results.

On March 13th, 2020, SG Patricia Scotland issued the following statement: “I have noted the concerns contained in previous statements issued by the Commonwealth Observer Group in Guyana, and those issued by other observers and member governments on the ongoing vote tabulation process in Guyana. If the tabulation of Region 4 results is not immediately and satisfactorily addressed in accordance with the ruling of the Acting Chief Justice, this would represent a serious violation of the fundamental political values of the Commonwealth”. The statement sought to reject the constitution of Guyana and advocate for the acceptance of fraudulent results.

Next month, Commonwealth leaders will meet in Rwanda to elect a new Secretary-General. It is widely believed that despite concerns about the stewardship of the 53 countries’ organization, the Jagdeo/Ali regime will give its support to SG Patricia Scotland because she was there during the five-month protracted period.

Her contender, Jamaica’s Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister, Kamina Johnson Smith, was silent during Guyana’s elections imbroglio. ‘Credible Sources’ wishes to note that England, the founders of the organization, will not lend its support to SG Patricia Scotland.
