The Opposition APNU+AFC member of Parliament Vinceroy Jordan is shooting fire at the GWI CEO Shiek Baksh for his mismanagement of the water company. Jordan blasted the politically appointed CEO for allegedly engaging in the political prosecution of staff and financial irregularities.
According to Jordan, Shiek Baksh justified the need for the dismissal of the 157 employees in the year 2021, and defended GWI’s decision to rehire the Financial Director, Jaigopaul Ram, who was fired in 2018 over financial irregularities.
The Parliamentary Opposition rubbishes the CEO’s boast of financial stability. Under his management, the company lost thirty million dollars from a GWI account by a fraud perpetrated at a commercial bank, and funds were transferred to a New York bank account in March 2021.
The Parliamentary Opposition calls on GWI and SOCU to make the findings of that investigation public. “We demand that the CEO disclose if the $240 million dollars financial stability that he boasted about includes the $30 million lost through fraud.”
