The Guyana Oil Company (GUYOIL) early this morning announced new increases in the price of all fuel across Guyana.
Gasoline has increased by $14 per liter from $225 to $239, and desoline increased to as much as $275 per liter.
Guyanese have since taken social media bemoaning the increases, with one ‘Althea’ saying: “Welcome to Guyana, where the more oil we discover and pump..,the more gas prices and cost of living raising higher and higher…smh”
In March the company announced a slight decrease in fuel costs after lobbying by Guyana’s main Opposition the APNU/AFC and other civil society groups.
The increase in fuel is expected to hit Guyana’s river and road transportation sector, as boat operators, minibus, and hire car drivers endure the burden of rising fuel costs, increase in commodity, and a relatively unstable price Market.
