40% increase Cost of Living: Gov’t must increase salaries and PAYE threshold -ANUG

In a post on their official social media page, A New and United Guyana (ANUG) has called on the government to increase public servant salaries and increase the PAYE tax threshold. This is to counter the real cost of living in Guyana which has “risen by over 40% since 2020”.

With over USD $700 million in Guyana’s Natural Resource Fund (NRF), ANUG posited that “Guyana has newfound wealth which can be directed to relieve that hardship”. Adding to the Opposition’s calls for a portion of oil revenues to be redirected to Guyanese struggling with the skyrocketing cost of living.

“The working poor do not eat concrete” the party further stated. Adding their voice to a statement by MP Sherod Duncan who said in his budget speech to Parliament that “People cannot eat roads”.

ANUG is part of the joiner list of parties that was awarded one seat in the National Assembly in 2020. They are currently represented by their joiner list ally MP Lenox Shuman, who has supported every bill and budget plan presented by the PPP since he took up the parliamentary seat on behalf of the ANUG, LJP and TNM joiner list.

Being a party empowered by voters to take parliamentary action to support their stated beliefs, the ANUG has both the ability and responsibility to back up its statements with actions.
