Cooking oil price up $20 after Ali’s Day of Fasting & Prayers

Supermarkets and shops across Guyana Saturday morning increased their prices for cooking oil from an initial $840 to $860 per liter. Dashing the expectation of thousands of Guyanese who were praying the AFC-supported day of Prayer would have helped to ease the price burden imposed on them by the installed People’s Progressive Party (PPP) disastrous economic policies.

The day of Fasting and Prayers which was held last Friday saw the involvement and coming together of Guyana’s three main religions: Christians, Hindus, and Muslims. Many welcomed the initiative, especially now when Guyana is experiencing a high cost of living.

Since its assumption of office in August of 2020, the PPP regime has come under strong criticism for its bad policies and economic mismanagement of Guyana. The party’s failure to effectively contain the disastrous inflation rate and rising unemployment have resulted in major discontent among the Guyanese people.

Shadow Finance Minister Juretha Fernandes warned of higher inflation during her Budget 2022 presentation.  She had told the Parliament that Budget 2022 is going to be a $400,000 tax on every citizen of Guyana and will lead to more economic hardship for citizens. The regime turned a deaf ear.
