The Alliance For Change (AFC), the second-largest member of the A Partnership for National Unity and AFC Coalition, has endorsed and supports the PPP’s regime’s call for a National Day of Fasting and Prayers. In a statement on April 6, 2022, the AFC said “Guyana is at a critical tipping point and risks falling into a deep abyss of eternal damnation. As always, the AFC remains ready, willing, and committed to working with the Government and all other political parties, civil and society organisations, and individuals to avoid a fatal end.”
The AFC noted in its release “Guyana is rapidly being divided into two unequal parts where, on the one hand, life for a majority of Guyanese is stricken by discrimination, recrimination, revenge, brutality and isolation. On the other hand a select few, a powerful minority, have taken control of the state’s resources and patrimony and gorge themselves, vulgarly flaunting wealth and influence, and to the exclusion of most others, who, for the most part, are treated as “nobody’s” – not entitled to be consulted or included, and are left to be mere observers while the disparities and inequalities continue in full view.”
The political party said it is of the view that “The politics and practice of exclusion, like a demon, must be purged and exorcised from within the 215,000 sq. km of our withering nation. The AFC therefore calls on its members, supporters, and all Guyanese, to offer and observe, prayers and fasting on Friday, April 8, and every day thereafter, for our dear land of Guyana so that the ills in our body politic and wider society – discrimination in every form, racism, corruption, nepotism, arrogance, pride, greed, revenge, persecution and malice, to name a few, can be removed from our lives.”
