Member of Parliament (MP) Amanza Walton-Desir (AWD) says we have lost our way as a people. ADW recently stated in a Facebook post, “From Dildo-Gate in the National Assembly, to Nirvan Singh, the son of the former Chief Justice spitting in the face of Policewoman Shawnette Bollers, or the manhandling of a female rank in uniform by a group of her colleagues, there seems to be no shortage of indicators.”
The Shadow Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that these issues are “symptomatic of the deep-seated maladies and maladjustments that plague our collective national psyche and which, unless bravely confronted, will guarantee our descent into anarchy. We must act.” AWD noted that while Government and leadership play an important role, the government is “by the people”. “So at no point are “we the people” absolved from the responsibility to mould our destiny!”, the MP pointed out.
The MP quizzed, “When will we, therefore, begin to take stock of ourselves? When is enough, enough? Are we prepared to undertake the hard work that is required for the maintenance of true freedom, or will we simply throw our hands up and resign ourselves to whatever? Are we prepared to stand up and be counted?” AWD is of the belief that the time for collective, national introspection is now. She noted, reflecting on the late, great Michael Jackson, “it starts with the man in the mirror.”
